“Isan Odyssey” is an experimental documentary film that explores various facets of Thailand’s Isan region, shedding light on its history, politics, and social inequality. The narrative seamlessly weaves together diverse storytelling formats—ranging from traditional documentary styles, theatrical performances, and experimental video art, to contemporary vlogs. By connecting different historical timelines, the film serves as a powerful reflection on the perspectives and lived experiences of the marginalized within the region’s political landscape.
In this project, I had the privilege of serving as one of the three Directors of Photography (DoP). My primary responsibility was capturing the middle act of the film, stepping in right after the segment focusing on the lives of Mor Lam artists and concluding just before the vlog sequence in Nakhon Phanom province.
